New FDA Approval: VEVYE

We are pleased to inform our patients at Compton Eye Associates about the recent FDA approval of VEVYE™ (cyclosporine ophthalmic solution) 0.1%, a new and innovative treatment for the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED). Developed by Novaliq GmbH, VEVYE represents a significant advancement in DED management.

VEVYE is noteworthy as the first and only cyclosporine solution specifically indicated for DED, demonstrating efficacy within just four weeks of treatment. This approval is particularly significant considering the millions of Americans affected by DED, a condition often characterized by inflammation of the ocular surface. VEVYE’s unique formulation, being water-free and preservative-free, not only reduces ocular inflammation but also offers high tolerability and minimal adverse effects. This innovative treatment approach is designed to increase the duration of the drug on the ocular surface, enhancing its effectiveness.

Clinical trials have shown VEVYE to be safe and well-tolerated, providing early, consistent, and durable therapeutic effects. The two pivotal Phase III trials, Essence-1 and Essence-2, demonstrated significant reductions in total corneal fluorescein staining scores, indicating its effectiveness in treating corneal surface damage associated with DED.
