Did you know a child’s first eye exam is supposed to happen at 6 months? This is the recommendation of the American Optometric Association*. When you understand the prevalence of vision problems / eye diseases that affect children, you will quickly understand that this is not an aggressive recommendation. Early intervention can often save or prevent severe vision loss later in life. Common conditions include amblyopia, strabismus, nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. More serious conditions include cataracts, glaucoma and retinoblastoma (a form of cancer). Compton Eye Associates has several doctors that specialize in pediatrics. Our office can sees babies from as early as a few weeks old. Does your child have any symptoms you feel should be evaluated? Schedule an appointment today.
